THERE were tears of joy and delight around West Donegal as students picked up their Leaving certificate results on Wednesday morning.
The principal of Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, Mr Noel Ó Gallachóir said the class of 2013 had received the best results ever in the history of the school.
“We only had 38 students sitting the leaving certificate this year and over 3o per cent received over 490 points in their results.
“Over half of our students achieved A’s in Irish which will be a great help to them and overall we had A’s scattered across nearly all subjects.
“We couldn’t be more delighted for our students and the indication is that the vast majority will get their first choices for third level education.”
Ms Maeve Sweeney, principal at Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola, said there were tears of joy and delight at the Falcarragh community school on Wednesday morning.
“This has been an exceptional year for PCC across the board. At the moment we have 12 students, out of at total of 90, who received over 515 points, three of which received over 550. 80 of our students sat higher level Irish of which 45 per cent received A’s and B’s.
“I was speaking to our career guidance teacher this morning who said she is confident that the majority of our students will get their first choices and go on to third level education.
“We would like to congratulate all our students on the fantastic effort they put in and also the teachers and parents for their support, this was a real team effort.”
Rosses Community School’s principal Mr John Gorman said the positive atmosphere between students and teachers at the Dungloe was reflected in another very successful year.
He said: “We had great results overall again at the school with over 70 per cent of our students achieving over 300 points, many in the high 400s and low 500s, while the highest achieved this year was around the 550 mark.
“We had a lot of A’s across the board in English and Irish, while there was a big uptake in higher level Maths, which we were especially delighted about.
“All the students seem very happy with their results, but of course they are still anxious about this coming Monday and Tuesday to see if they received the points they need for their third level education choices, but we are confident that 80 per cent will go on to study.
“But today is not just about the results, it’s also about seeing the kids develop as human beings and we are very proud of a great group of students here today.”
