LOCAL election candidate Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig has called on those responsible for taking away two billboards for his community office in Dungloe, to return them.

“Over the weekend two billboards in Dungloe were removed and taken away. The purpose of the billboards is to simply give information to the community about how to contact the office.” said Mac Giolla Easbuig.

“I am very annoyed and concerned at this development. I am annoyed because the billboards were paid from donations towards our election campaign and many people who are not well off have contributed because they firmly believe in what we are trying to do. Also the office has been offered as a resource to local groups who have their meetings there.

“I am concerned that as the election draws near we may be seeing the emergence of dirty tricks. Had only one billboard been taken then we could dismiss it as the action of a misguided individual, but it looks like our billboards are being targeted. If our campaign is ruffling the feathers of those in power then I want to say that we will not be knocked off course or intimidated. We will continue to highlight neglect and injustice affecting our communities.”

I would appeal to whoever took them to return them immediately. They can just leave them outside the door of the office. Politics in our county has already sunk low enough in popular esteem. There is no need for it to sink even lower.”
