Weather warning issued as winds expected to pick up

The map released by the NI Weather and Flood Advisory Service of where the winds are expected to increase this evening and overnight.

A weather warning has been issued as high winds and rough seas are anticipated across Donegal over the coming hours.

The NI Weather and Flood Advisory Service has advised that high winds are expected to affect the North and North West later this afternoon, evening and overnight. Gusts of 50 to possibly 60mph are expected across most of the country with winds of up to 70mph possible in exposed coastal areas.

Very rough sea conditions are likely and the public are advised to avoid beach fronts and sea walls due to risk of over topping waves.

The public should be aware of possible disruption to travel, especially to ferry services. There is a risk of downed trees in places.

The warning is valid from 5pm today until 1pm today.
