DONEGAL property owners have been warned to batten down the hatches as gusts of up to 120 kph are forecast to batter the county tonight and tomorrow.
Met Eireann put in place a ‘status orange’ weather warning for the area, with southwest to west winds expected with mean speeds of 50 to 75 km and gusts of between 90 to 120 km/h.
Very high waves were also forecast, which bring with them the risk of coastal flooding.
The warning was issued at 10 am this morning and is valid to 6 am tomorrow.
This category ‘orange’ level weather warnings is for weather conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on people in the affected areas. The issue of this level weather warning implies that all recipients in the affected areas should prepare themselves in an appropriate way for the anticipated conditions.
The Road Safety Authourity (RSA) said motorists should watch out for falling debris and for vehicles veering in the strong winds.
