A status yellow weather warning has been put in place nationally, with showers expected to be heavy in parts of Donegal and other areas of Ulster.
A further status yellow gale warning and a small craft warning were put in place.
Weather will be windy and blustery this evening, with sunny spells and widespread squally showers.
The showers will be heavy and prolonged in parts of Ulster and Connaght, with a risk of spot flooding.
Strong to gale force westerly winds will be blustery and there will be high seas on Atlantic coasts.
Continuing tonight, winds will remain strong with further showeres. A continued risk of flooding in northern and western areas with heavy and prolonged showers.
Strong to gale force and blustery west and north west winds will ease somewhat by morning.
Lowest temperatures are expected to be 8 to 11 degrees celsius.
