Weather: Sunny spells for Donegal as mercury is set to rise

By Dionne Meehan

THE rumours are true; the good weather is making a comeback.

It’s time to pull the summer clothes out of the attic and dig out the sun cream from the back of the cupboard, as temperatures are set to hit 24 degrees in the coming days.

Starting today, Met Éireann has forecast mostly dry and warm weather with plenty of hazy sunshine.

With highest temperatures set to reach 22 to 24 degrees today, a few showers may continue into the night but overall it will be mostly dry and mild with temperatures not falling below 14 to 16 degrees.

Tomorrow will remain sunny with highest temperatures of 23 to 24 degrees.

Overnight, there will be a mix of cloud and clear spells with a continued chance of showers.

Temperatures will remain mild, generally not falling below the mid-teens.

Despite a few passing showers, these sunny spells will continue into Saturday and we will experience highs of 18 to 21 degrees in light breezes.

On Sunday, the weather will remain sunny with a few showers at times.

There will be highs of 18 to 21 degrees in light breezes.

Meanwhile, a gorse fire warning has been issued in light of the significantly hotter conditions.

With a number of gorse fires having already occurred this year, landowners and members of the public have been urged not to engage in activities that could cause wildfires.

Under the Wildlife Acts 1976 and 2000, it is an offence to cut, grub, burn or destroy any vegetation growing on land not then cultivated between March 1 and August 31.

Landowners and members of the public are urged to be vigilant and to report any uncontrolled or unattended fires immediately to the fire service by dialling 999 or 112.
