Weakened Donegal battle well in Tyrone defeat

Donegal 0-19 Tyrone 0-25

A weakened Donegal side battled well against Tyrone in O’Donnell Park today but were defeated by the Red Hand county.

Donegal made 11 changes to their starting team from the side that defeated Derry two weeks ago, and players who had been on the fringes in the early part of the league were given a chance to impress.

Darragh Canavan (Tyrone) and Jamie Brennan (Donegal) were sharp for their respective teams early on and the sides were level after 22 minutes.

However, Tyrone lifted it in the second quarter and were able to push ahead.

Tyrone moved nine points clear early in the second half but Donegal kept going with Caolan McColgan and Odhran Doherty scoring two-pointers.

Tyrone never looked in any great trouble but Donegal battled until the end and there were only six points between the sides at the conclusion of the game.

Keelan McGroddy (Downings) and Jonny Carlin (Red Hughs) made their senior intercounty debuts in the second half.
