There was no inferiority complex for Emer Trearty and the Downings ladies team when they entered the Ulster Junior Championship arena and they are the last team standing after a memorable couple of weeks.
When Downings set off to face Cavan champions Butlersbridge a couple of weeks ago, there were many obstacles in their way.
However, the Ulster Club Championships are all about ‘survive and advance’ and Downings took out Butlersbridge and then Coleraine.
The final was a tight affair but Downings just carried a greater threat in attack.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Trearty.
“We just went into it thinking we had as much chance as anyone else.
“Each game we have just taken it step by step, and this is another one for us.
“You have to think positive the whole way through.
“We work for each other and everyone has their own roles in the team.
“We just say we will take the points and the goals will come and we are fortunate that we are able to get the goals when we need them.”
Trearty had a solid game in the backline and made one outstanding tackle in extra-time when Warrenpoint looked to be breaking through.
“I needed to step up and I don’t even know how I did – it just kind of happened.
“It was fortunate enough.”
Downings will now face Kildare champions Kilcock who defeated Baile Dubh Tire (Wexford) by 0-15 to 1-9 in the Leinster Final.
They will be a strong outfit, but the 27-year-old and her teammates won’t fear anyone at home.
“We know we play the Leinster champions.
“We will celebrate this a little bit anyway and then we will get back at it.”
