‘We believe that we can get out of it’ – Bonner

Donegal manager Declan Bonner

DONEGAL manager Declan Bonner says his side still believe that they can retain their Division 1 status.

With just two games remaining, Donegal are currently in the relegation zone, and have tricky games with Monaghan and Mayo coming over the next fortnight.

One more win might be enough to keep them up depending on other results, but the likelihood is that they will need to take four points from the next two weekends if they are going to be back in the top tier in 2019.

It’s a tall order, but Bonner feels his team can do it, and is targeting a win against Monaghan in Clones.

“Absolutely we believe that we can get out of it,” said Bonner.

“Listen, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We went into the league campaign with a young squad of players, and to be fair those lads have done well, and we were unfortunate in a few matches.

“But the league table doesn’t lie, and we’re second from bottom, and there’s no denying that this is a huge game in a relegation battle for us, and it’s a match that we have to get something out of.

“The mood in the camp is still very positive, and the lads will back themselves to get the four points we need, starting against Monaghan on Sunday.”
