Ollie Horgan says that Waterford’s appeal to the FAI over the decision to allow Shane McEleney play for Finn Harps in the final round of Premier Division games last Monday night has nothing to do with the Ballybofey club.
McEleney featured for Harps in the 1-0 win at Finn Park and that triumph saw Horgan’s side avoid the play-off spot, and meant that Waterford missed out on fourth spot in the table.
McEleney was due to serve a suspension after accumulating five bookings, and it was to kick in from Monday, November 9 – the night the match with Waterford was played.
However, as the final round of fixtures were initially scheduled to take place on the Sunday, and were then pushed back 24 hours, the FAI decided that the suspensions wouldn’t start until Tuesday, November 10.
Waterford were not informed by the FAI that any due suspensions didn’t start until the Tuesday.
They feel that McEleney shouldn’t have played and their legal team have brought the matter up with the authorities.
Harps boss Horgan said: “It has absolutely nothing to do with me or Finn Harps. That’s an issue between Waterford and the FAI.”
