Uisce Éireann has confirmed that repairs to a burst water main impacting supply to Gort an Choirce have been completed, and water is returning to affected customers.
The burst water main at the water treatment plant resulted in supply outages in Gort an Choirce and surrounding areas yesterday.
Local councillors spoke to the Donegal News about their concerns over the outages, which had forced businesses in the area to close their doors to customers.
“It’s impacting the businesses in the town greatly,” said Cllr Michael McClafferty.
“The shops, the coffee shops, the barbers, the butchers… all who can’t function without water.”
Cllr McClafferty stressed the knock on affects the outages have across the whole community, from elderly people receiving home support services to parents sterilising bottles for young babies.
Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig also voiced his concern, he said it was “totally unacceptable”.
“We will continue to fight Uisce Éireann and the government to fund our water infrastructure.
“We deserve better,” added Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig.
A spokesperson for Uisce Éireann said repairs have been completed and supply levels in the area are continuing to return to normal this morning.
However, it may take longer for those on higher ground or at the end of the network to have a full supply restored.
