In the second round Conroy came back strong and forced Eddie to work hard behind his jab. Eddie finished the round strong going into the third round 8-4 ahead.
In the final round, Conroy again pushed Eddie hard, but Ward was able to finish the round stronger to claim his first All-Ireland title.
This was a double victory for the Ward family as his brother Bernie beat Conroy’s younger brother, Michael, in the All-Ireland Youth Championships.
Congratulations to both brothers on their achievement.
At a further tournament in the Tower Hotel, Derry, two Letterkenny boxers were in action against Oakleaf opponents.
First in the ring was Patrick Stokes who defeated Jamie McCormick and then his brother Christoper lost out on a points decision to Brett McGinty.
Well done to the two lads.
The Letterkenny ABC would like to convey their sympathy to the McLaughlin family on the sad passing of their father John, who was head coach of the Club for many years and was also co-founder of the Club. May he rest in peace.
