Walk in memory of Seán Ó Domhnaill

PEOPLE in Dunlewey will pull on their walking shoes tomorrow (Friday) in memory of Seán Ó Domhnaill.

The much-loved community figure passed away seven years ago at the age of 61. Since then a walk has been held annually to remember him and to pay for various projects in the area.

The event has raised thousands of euros for charity and it is likely to do so again this year.

Donations made will cover the cost of replacing the external lights at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Dunlewey. Any funds remaining will go towards Ionad Pobail Dhún Lúiche.

Seán’s daughter Sinéad said, “Dad died seven years ago and every year we do this charity walk for different things around Dunlewey.

Anything in Dunlewey that needs a boost, we try and help with it.

“Dad would have been heavily involved in the community and anything that needed done, whether it was footpaths or festivals, he would have been in the middle of it.

“It is about carrying on the work he was involved in and I think he would be delighted that we are doing that,” Sinéad added.

Registration for the annual walk in memory of Seán Ó Domhnaill is from 11am tomorrow at the community centre with the event itself taking off at noon.

There are two routes, a loop around Mín a Craobha for a distance of about eight kilometres.

Alternatively a self led walk can be done to Glentornan and back, six kilometres approximately.

Participants should wear appropriate clothing and the right shoes for the day.

As well as the walks there will be a quiz in McGeady’s Bar in Dunlewey this evening (Thursday), again with proceeds going to charity.

Anyone who can’t make any of the events can still donate via the Gofundme page ‘Siúl le Seán-Fundraising for Dún Lúiche 2022’ or through Revolut at revolut.me/dunluiche
