A NUMBER of walk-in clinics for children will be held next week following the rise in flu cases in Donegal.
The HSE is holding free nasal flu vaccine walk-in clinics for children aged two to 17 years on December 28 and 29.
The number of confirmed influenza cases notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has increased in the past week, with 283 confirmed influenza cases notified in the week ending December 10 and 170 cases reported in the week ending December 3. Flu cases have increased in almost all age groups but mainly in those aged 0-4 years.
Symptoms of flu in children can include a high temperature, muscle pains, headache and extreme tiredness.
Dr Aparna Keegan, Consultant in Public Health Medicine at the HSE National Immunisation Office, says: “We are urging all parents of young children to get their free nasal flu vaccine. Recent data has shown flu is circulating more widely in communities across the country. This is having a big impact on young children in particular.”
The flu vaccine clinics will be held in The Vestry, St Conal’s Church, Letterkenny on December 28 from 10am to 12pm, in Donegal Town Primary Care Centre on December 29 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, Buncrana Primary Care Centre, Maginn Avenue on December 29 from 10.30am to 12.30pm and the Community Mental Health Hub Dungloe on December 29 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
