Community walk in Letterkenny to mark Palliative Care Week

The Donegal Hospice is inviting the public to take part in a special community walk this week to mark Palliative Care Week.

The event takes place on Thursday, 11 September, beginning at 6pm from the Hospice carpark at Knocknamona, Letterkenny. Participants will stroll together to Bernard McGlinchey Town Park before returning to the Hospice gardens for a “Palliative Pause” — a moment of reflection to remember loved ones and light a candle in their memory.

Catherine Regan, Director of Nursing at the Donegal Hospice, said the evening will be open to everyone.

“This walk is a special opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance, reflection and support,” she said. “Whether you have been personally touched by palliative care or simply wish to show your support, we look forward to welcoming the public.”

Following the walk and remembrance ceremony, tea and light refreshments will be served at the Hospice. The event is free to attend, but those interested are asked to register by calling the Hospice reception on (074) 91 77256.

This year’s walk comes at a particularly important time for the Hospice, with plans for a major extension and refurbishment now at detailed design stage.

Isobell Doherty, Chairperson of the Donegal Hospice Directors CLG, said the redevelopment will secure the Hospice’s future.

“As we mark this important week, we’re also looking ahead with optimism,” she said. “This project will allow us to continue providing compassionate, high-quality care for those who need it most.”
