Vox pop: Love is in the air in Letterkenny

By Ava Maguire, Saoirse Gallagher and Éabha Nic Ailín

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, student reporters Ava Maguire, Saoirse Gallagher and Éabha Campbell set out on the streets of Letterkenny to ask excited locals how they wish to spend the most romantic day of the year.

We had a variety of responses to our question. David McFadden told us he is going to make sure he has lovely roses bought for his granny, while Thomas Daly said he was planning the same thing for his wife.

ATU students on their way to lunch said they were looking forward to and expecting lovely flowers on the day. Anita Benny explained how she is excited for her friend’s birthday, which happens to fall on Valentine’s Day, while Zuzanna Cofala is looking forward to spending time with her friends on “Galentines”.

Aanee’s Flowers on Lower Main Street said there has been no decline in the amount of rose bouquets purchased during Valentine’s over the years, while Shannon Laird, a staff member of Argento in Letterkenny Shopping Centre, said jewellery was being bought for partners and family during this time, and that there is a noticeable increase in sales as the countdown to Valentine’s Day moves up a gear.
