DO you have an hour a week to spare to befriend an older person? If so, the Friendly Face Befriending Service would like to hear from you.

The Good Morning telephone and befriending service offers free and confidential support to people who are older, living alone or who are housebound due to illness or mobility issues.

It has been running in Inishowen for four years, it is now being extended out to two new Primary Care areas, Milford Rosguill and Fanad and Lifford and Castlefinn.

The service matches a volunteer with a person who requires the service. The volunteer provides companionship, friendship and a supportive relationship that lesson’s the effects of isolation and loneliness.

The volunteer befriender will be garda vetted and receives training that supports them in carrying out their role.  The befriender also receives continuous support from the Befriending Organiser for the duration of the relationship.

Volunteers needed now in the Milford, Rosguill and Fanad Areas and in the Lifford and Castlefinn areas.

A spokesperson said: “Do you have an hour a week to befriend an older person? Make visits, enjoy mutual hobbies, interests and accompany them on short outings and activities locally? Volunteers must be over 18-years-of-age, Garda vetted, trained and support will be provided. A very worthwhile one hour a week to help others.”

Community Befriending Organisers, Anne Marie Rodgers and Sarah Breslin will be based in the offices of the Premier Services on the Diamond, Milford and Lifford/Clonleigh Community Resource Centre, Lifford, respectively.

To apply, please contact Lifford and Castlefinn PCT Area, Community Befriending Organiser, Sarah Breslin, on 086 7858799 or email sarahbefriending@gmail.com
