THE Donegal Volunteer Centre have launched their third annual photography competition in collaboration with the Donegal County Museum and the Donegal News.
This year’s theme is ‘Photographing Volunteers in Action’ and will highlight the hard work volunteers do in our communities.
“The Volunteer Centre are delighted to offer this competition because it is a chance for communities and individuals to show the good work that is being done by volunteers throughout the county.
“This is an opportunity to show that they are appreciated and gives us an insight in to the hard work they are doing on the ground,” said Eamonn Bonner at Donegal Volunteer Centre.
The Donegal County Museum is interested in promoting volunteers working in the heritage role.
“That is anything from cleaning the guns at Dunree to tidying the castle in Rathmullan,” Eamonn explained.
The museum has dedicated their award to the late John McDermott, who was a renowned photographer of Donegal’s historical buildings and landmarks. He donated all of his photographs to the museum.
The competition will culminate at a special event in Donegal County Museum on Culture Night in September 2023. There will be an exhibition of both the shortlisted entries and winners which will remain on display in museum until the end of October 2023.
Entry to the competition is limited to three photographs from each individual photographer and entry is free. It is open to amateur photographers only and all photographs must be the work of the individual who submits them and have been taken in County Donegal in the period January 1, 2022 to date showing volunteers in action in the community.
The prizes include a €100 Magee’s Photo Centre voucher for the Museum Heritage Volunteering prize, Volunteer Centre Volunteering in the Community – first prize €300 and runner up €50 and the Donegal News will feature the winner and runner up in the competition. The closing date is 5pm on Friday, August 18, 2023.
