Vigilance urged over growing theft technique

SHOP owners in Letterkenny are being urged to be vigilant in the wake of the emergence of a growing theft technique.
The warning comes following the theft of €2,000 worth of clothing from a store in Lettterkenny on Thursday, July 23. The items were stolen in foil freezer types of bags, which do not activate security alarms.
In a separate incident on the same day, a number of people entered another shop premises with foil freezer bags which they filled with perfume to the value of €450.
Security staff approached the people in question and they fled the store before gardaí were contacted. The property in question was recovered by the staff.
The bags in question are already foil lined and some of the bags also have an added layer of a lining.
A garda spokesperson said: “This is certainly not a new method of theft that has come to light recently, but we want to make shop owners aware that it has been happening in our area lately as a preventative measure.”
