By Dionne Meehan

A VIGIL was held at Machaire Gathlán pier in Gaoth Dobhair last Wednesday for missing kayaker Paul Buchanan.

Mr Buchanan (50s), who operates an accounting practice in Letterkenny, failed to return after he set off from Machaire Gathlán pier at around 5pm on Thursday evening, October 3.

The vigil was organised by Mr Buchanan’s colleagues and friends at Gaoth Dobhair Credit Union in Derrybeg.

The Rosary was led by Fr Breandán Ward, C.C. and Séiplíeach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair.

Among those present at the vigil were members of the Bunbeg Coast and Rescue Service who, along with other services, spent many hours searching for the missing Ramelton man over the past two weeks.

Meanwhile, after searches were stood down due to adverse weather conditions last week, there are plans to resume searches in the coming days.
A garda spokesperson confirmed: “The Coastguard is planning searches over the coming days, subject to weather conditions.”
