Colaiste na Carraige 6-7 Carndonagh Community School 1-5

FOUR goals in the final seven minutes gave Colaiste na Carraige a resounding victory over Carndonagh Community School in the under 14 A Vocational Schools final at the Centre of Excellence on Tuesday.
Cillian O’Malley netted three times for Carrick, including two goals inside twenty seconds to give Gareth Doherty’s team a deserved victory.
Carndonagh were a much more physical side, but they struggled to compete with Carrick’s composed playing style, and their cause was not helped when they lost their captain Conor O’Donnell to a black card in the 29th minute.
They lacked leadership without the influential O’Donnell, and although they did bring the deficit back to six points with ten minutes remaining, Colaiste na Carriage closed out the game in a ruthless fashion.
Carrick got off to a dream start with O’Malley finding the net after just 45 seconds. Aaron Doherty’s shot dropped short, and Gavin Moore broke the ball into the path of O’Malley, who finished emphatically past Ronan Lafferty.
O’Malley had another chance to score a goal moments later, but this time Lafferty pulled off a tremendous double save to deny him.
Carndonagh opened their account in the eighth minute with a good point from midfielder Joe Doherty, but Lanty Molloy soon cancelled out that score with a free.
Aaron Doherty drove forward to kick a point for Carrick, but Carn began to grab control of the game. Mark Doherty spurned a decent goal chance, but Kieran Farren and Conor O’Donnell both managed to raise white flags.
Lanty Molloy landed a free, before O’Donnell had to be replaced after picking up a black card. It was a big blow to Carndonagh, and Lanty Molloy notched a free and a point from play in injury time to heap more misery on Colm Toland’s team.
Carrick went to the sanctuary of the makeshift dressing rooms at half-time, leaving their opponents standing in the rain, and it appeared to help them as they scored their second goal after just 36 seconds of the restart.
Gary Molloy slipped the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net, after his initial shot thundered off the crossbar.
A Lanty Molloy ‘45’ and a nice point from Jordan Burns extended Carrick’s lead, but they were dealt a blow when wing-back Tadhg McGinley was shown a black card.
Carndonagh restored some hope to their travelling supporters with a goal after 50 minutes. Joe Doherty’s goalbound shot was saved by Colm Garvey, but Farren was on hand to hammer the rebound into the net.
However, that goal sparked Carrick into life, and O’Malley scored his second three-pointer when his shot deceived Lafferty and dropped into the net.
The goalkeeper tried to restart the game quickly but his kick-out only reached Moore, and he found O’Malley, who drilled the ball low past Lafferty to score his second goal in twenty seconds and complete his hat-trick.
Sean Byrne converted a free for Carn, but an own goal from Ciaran Doherty and a fine finish from Dylan Kelly completed the rout for Colaiste na Carraige, who won their first under 14 A title since 2009.
