here was plenty of joy for Donegal boxers at the Halloween Box Cup competition held in Antrim over the Bank Holiday weekend.
St Bridget’s, Clonmany toasted a trio of champions while Convoy had a pair of winners and Derryveagh and Dunfanaghy each had one triumph in the finals.
On Sunday, Isabella Iwanek of Convoy Boxing Club received a walkover in the Girl 1 – 54kg final, while St Bridget’s Clonmany man Darragh McGonigle won his Boy 1 42kg final 2-1 over Alfie Harrington of Dunboyne BC.
In the Junior Cadet Boys 57kg on Monday, Dunfanaghy’s Eddie McBride beat Immaculate ABC’s Odhran McComb 3-0 in the final.
The success continued for St Bridget’s as Conan Kearney won 3-0 against Ronan Sands (Oliver Plunkett ABC) in the Senior Cadet Boys 66kg final, while Rowen Doherty made it a hat-trick of titles for the club in the Junior Cadet Boys 40kg final with another 3-0 win over Thomas McDonagh of Carrickmore.
Convoy had their second winner in Kerry Brown as she put in a dominant performance in the Senior Cadet Girls 60kg final over Portavogie’s Hayley McFerran.
Derryveagh’s David Tennyson received a walkover in the final of his Senior Cadet Boys 63kg final after Nedas Samutakas of Gilford ABC had to withdraw due to injury.
There was some disappointment in the finals as Dunfanaghy and Twin Towns both had a pair of runners-up each.
For the Twin Towns, Caoimhin Connolly narrowly lost 2-1 in the Senior Cadet Boys 50kg final to Zain Iqbal of Southside Boxing Academy, while Roisin Hegarty also lost out 2-1 in the Junior Cadet Girls 60kg final to Donore BC’s Emmie Barrett.
For Dunfanaghy, Carys McFadden suffered a 2-1 defeat to Skye-Leigh Haighton of Evolution BC in the Senior Cadet Girls 46kg final, while Shaun Doohan lost 2-1 in the Senior Cadet Boys 80kg final to Whitechurch’s Chulainn McDonnell.
