Very poor road conditions across Donegal this morning

Road conditions are very poor again this morning with reports of black ice on roads across Donegal.

The Glenmaquin/Listillion junction on the N13 is in a particularly dangerous state this morning, with gardaí advising people to use an alternative route.

Back Road Curraghamone to Drumboe is also impassable due to ice.

Gardaí in Donegal have advised that motorists only travel if necessary.

“If you can postpone your trip until later in the day when road conditions improve, please do so,” a garda spokes person said.

Donegal County Council’s gritters have been treating roads since 6am, but motorists are still advised to exercise extreme caution due to the presence of black ice and freezing rain.

“Motorists should use the main road where possible and assume no road is ice free,” a spokesperson for the council said.

They also advised that community grit heaps are available for use on public roads, including at Glenmore Picnic Area and Stranorlar Carpark (adjacent Gibsons and Pet shop).
