THERE is anger in Letterkenny after a local memorial bench and plaque were defaced with graffiti.
The memorial close to Sentry Hill, is dedicated to the memory of the late historian and environmentalist May McClintock who was much loved by so many.
The plaque and summer seat were placed at the site by the Letterkenny Community Heritage Group.
However, vandals have spray painted the memorial, prompting disappointment and anger locally.
Retired Garda Sergeant Christy Galligan is among those to hit out at those responsible.
“It seems defacing public property, or a memorial in dedication to those who’ve contributed to the local community, is fair game for graffiti artists,” he said.
“The sad reality, as I do my daily walks, is that there are areas of Letterkenny town where public defacing has become all too common, as that I have witnessed in a public space area opposite St. Eunan’s College.
“The photo says all there needs to be said.
“I would ask those with their spray cans or markers to consider the groups and individual volunteers who have done so much to make our town clean and welcoming. Don’t deface it, just leave it alone.”
