US string quartet returns for annual visit

THE Apple Hill String Quartet from New Hampshire USA is returning to Donegal next month for its annual chamber music workshop and concerts.

A firm favourite with classical musicians from across the island of Ireland the residential weekend workshop will once again take place in the Outdoor Education Centre in Gartan, Churchill, from December, 14 to 16.

The Apple Hill String Quartet will also perform a public concert in Conwal Parish Church, Letterkenny on Saturday 15th December at 7pm.

The concert programme is: BEETHOVEN Op18 no 5; Tangos by WEILL, STRAVINSKY and PIAZZOLA; BRAHMS A-Minor String Quartet Op51, no 2.

The quartet has been coming to Donegal for a number of years and their commitment to young musicians from the area has been significant, inviting students to take part in the Apple Hill Summer Chamber Music Workshop in the 100 acre Apple Hill Campus in New Hampshire.

The weekend course is residential commencing 6pm Friday, December 14 concluding with student concert Sunday 3pm. Course fee is €160 and includes accommodation, meal, tuition and admission to Apple Hill String Quartet public concert.
