Unprecedented demand for next week’s Ghostlight Sessions at The Balor

THERE is an unprecedented demand for tickets for next week’s Ghostlight Sessions – The Balor, Ballybofey’s monthly original music night which has been running since 2017.

As is the norm, this month’s Ghostlight Sessions features three artists, each playing a 30 minute set of original music.

Glasgow singer-songwriter Michael McGovern will headline, with Galway hypnotic post-punk band ‘In Athens’ and Ballybofey guitar duo Ally Doherty and Marcus Devlin also on the bill.

With just one week until the gig, advance ticket sales are at an all-time high.

Headline act Michael McGovern has drawn considerable interest, spurred in part by a recent Instagram share and rave review of his single ‘Evelyn’ by actor Paul Mescal.

“Michael was already on the crest of a wave,” says Balor manager, Conor Malone.

“This Ghostlight appearance comes in the middle of a solo Irish tour that has sold out in several venues around the country.

“And Paul Mescal’s endorsement does no harm at all.”

McGovern isn’t the only attraction however.

“There would be a lot of local respect and support for Ally and Marcus, two fantastic musicians,” says Malone.

“While ‘In Athens’ has a considerable reputation of their own and have some strong connections in the Donegal music scene.”

Conor urged anyone interested in The Ghostlight Sessions to book their tickets in advance.

“The Ghostlight Sessions crowd would traditionally be about 50 per cent walk up on the night,” says Conor.

“But looking at the advance ticket sales there mightn’t be any left by then so please, if you’re planning to come along, get your ticket in advance.”

The Balor Arts Centre hosts The Ghostlight Sessions on Thursday, March 12 at 8pm.

Tickets are €15 and are available from The Balor Box Office by calling 0749131840 or online at www.balorartscentre.com
