Galway United 1 Finn Harps 0
An unfortunate own goal by Jamie Watson was all that separated Finn Harps and newly crowned First Division champions Galway United in Eamon Deacy Park.
In their first game since the departure of manager Dave Rogers on Saturday, Darren Murphy took charge on the night as the Harps were beaten by a Galway side with a 100% record at home this season.
The hosts were much the better team and Rob Manley and Francely Lomboto both had chances to open the scoring but couldn’t hit the target while Antonio Tuta had to make a good save to deny David Hurley.
But they took the lead when Edward McCarthy found Wassim Aouachria and he drilled a low cross to the back post where Watson, under pressure from Stephen Walsh and may have been impeded, turned the ball into his own net on 40 minutes.
Galway looked to extend their lead in the second half but the Harps defended well and pressed late on for an equaliser but to no avail.
