DONEGAL’S Under 20 Football Championship semi-final with Derry has been pushed forward to this Saturday.
The game was initially scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 12 but the Ulster Council have moved the fixture.
The decision comes on the back of some very strong comments from Derry senior manager Rory Gallagher at the weekend.
Gallagher felt five of his players were going to be left in a difficult position as their seniors take on Fermanagh on April 15, and a new rule states that a player can’t play both Under 20 and senior championship within a seven-day window.
The U20 semi-final has now been moved forward, and it will take place at 4pm in Owenbeg after Derry won the toss.
It’s not ideal news for Leo McLoone’s Donegal who are sweating on the fitness of senior panellist, Luke McGlynn, and an extra few days might have helped the Glenfin man.
McGlynn played against Kerry and Monaghan in the National League but has struggled with injury over the last month and missed the Under 20 quarter-final win against Antrim.
“Well we’re hopeful that he might be back,” said McLoone after the Antrim win.
“He has tendinopathy in the ankle and it’s flaring up on him a lot.”
