Unattended phone charger found ‘sizzling’ in bedroom

by Louise Doyle

ALARM has been sounded in the wake of what has been described as a ‘close call’ after an unattended phone and charger was found sizzling in the bedroom of a house.

The incident occurred in the home of Councillor Michael McClafferty ,who said that only for a family member having been alerted to the singeing smell a fire would certainly have broken out.

“A phone and charger was found sizzling in a bedroom of my house,” said the Glenties Municipal District councillor. Had this happened through the night, it would have been a different story today.”

In the wake of the frightening incident, Cllr McClafferty is urging everyone to be vigilant and to never to leave any charging device unattended.

“Only use a recommended charger that is built by the manufacturer to help prevent problems, be it a phone or electric shaver or whatever,” he told the Donegal News.

“E-scooters with lithium batteries are another cause for concern,” Cllr McClafferty said.
