PAT the Cope Gallagher has been selected as Fianna Fáil’s Midlands, West and North West candidate for the upcoming European elections.
The Dungloe native, who this year celebrates 35 years since first being election at local level, was unanimously selected at the party’s convention in Mullingar on Saturday night.
Mr Gallagher said he plans to continue serving the Midlands, West and North West, and his own traditional constituency, as he has for over three decades.
“I bring a wealth of experience at local, national and European level and my priorities, if re-elected, are the promotion of job creation and growth.

“We need to fully implement policies to deal with long-term and youth unemployment in the constituency and leverage vital funding under the new budget to ensure that every village and town across the constituency benefits.
“We also need to support the rural and coastal communities in Donegal with funding from the Rural Development Programme,” the election candidate said yesterday.
