GARDAÍ in Donegal have reminded the public that it is against the law to drive unaccompanied on a learner permit after a vehicle was detained during an early morning checkpoint this morning.
Taking to social media this afternoon, Gardaí said Buncrana Roads Policing Unit was accompanied by Revenue and Social Welfare Enforcement Officers at checkpoints in Muff and St. Johnston this morning.
“A number of fixed charge penalty notices were issued for non-display of ‘N’ plates, for seatbelt offences and one vehicle was detained under the Clancy Amendment,” a spokesperson said.
“The learner driver in question was unaccompanied on their journey.
“It is against the law for you to drive unaccompanied on a learner permit.
“Under the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) system in Ireland, a learner permit holder must be accompanied at all times by someone who has held a full, valid driving licence in the same category for a minimum of two years,” the post concluded.
