In their respective finals at the Ulster Novice Intermediate Championships at the Dockworkers’ Club in Belfast, Boyce and McFadden took home the honours, but there was agony for the Twin Towns trip of Michael McMenamin, Barry Doherty and Kevin Maguire who were pipped at the post.

In the light-welterweight final, Boyce overcame McMenamin in an all-Donegal final. At the end of the three rounds, Boyce got the nod from all of the ringside judges for a unanimous win.

His road to glory included toppling Johnny Redpath in his quarter-final as well as a walkover semifinal win against Christy Doherty (Oakleaf).

McFadden took the spoils at welterweight thanks to a comfortable demolition of Liam Nugent out of the Mark Heagney club in Kildress, County Tyrone.

McFadden beat Twin Towns’ Cathal Gallagher and Carrickmore’s Colm Cummings on his way to the final and the Dunfanaghy kingpin made no mistake for a unanimous final win over Nugent.

In the middleweight final Doherty was beaten by Stephen McCrory of Clonoe while Maguire suffered a narrow defeat to Karl Haughey from Carrickmore in the light-heavyweight final.
