Works to improve the supply of raw water from Lough Keel to Crolly Water Treatment Plant is set to commence this month.
The works will give locals and visitors alike an improved confidence in the security of their water supply.
Uisce Éireann crews are scheduled to arrive in The Rosses at the end August to begin work on replacing more than 1,400m of old pipework which is susceptible to regular interruptions of water supply between Lough Keel and Crolly Water Treatment Plant.
Uisce Éireann’s Project Manager Michael McHugh is looking forward to getting this important project underway.
“Uisce Éireann is working hard to prioritise the delivery of safe and secure water supply in Gweedore and The Rosses.
“It is great to finally announce that the works in The Rosses will commence in the coming weeks, which will improve the security of supply of drinking water to the community of The Rosses now and into the future.
“This new pipe will ensure a safer more secure water supply for homes and businesses in this thriving Gaeltacht community,” he said.
Michael continued: “We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews will make every effort to minimise disruption to the local people.
“These works are essential to ensure The Rosses security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience.
We thank the community for their patience and co-operation,” he said.
A road closure will be required along the narrow L-1593-2 in the townlands of Crolly and Cronaguiggy to deliver the works safely and efficiently.
The road closure will take place between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday to accommodate the works along the narrow verge.
A signposted diversion will be in place and local and emergency traffic will be accommodated at all times.
EPS Ltd working in partnership with T+L Gallagher will carry out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The works are expected to be completed in October.
