WATER supply has returned to Uisce Éireann customers in a large area of Letterkenny following a significant burst on the network.
The leak had resulted in low pressure and disruptions for some customers in Bomany, Newmills, Roughan, Tullygay, Conwal and surrounding areas in recent days.
However, complex repairs were completed on Monday night and supply has returned for all customers.
Following the completion of works, Cllr Donal Mandy Kelly, pictured right, reassured affected customers by informing them that a new pump will be installed at Rockhill Pumping Station to increase water pressure ahead of the Christmas period.
“This is very welcome and positive news for the residents of Bomany, Newmills, Tullygay and surrounding areas,” Cllr Kelly, said.
“I am delighted to get this confirmation from Uisce Éireann that a new pump is to be installed to increase water pressure in these areas.
“Uisce Éireann is confident that this pump will see major improvements in water pressure in these areas in the medium term.
“Uisce Éireann is also exploring taking another feed line from the Inishowen supply coming from the Illies Water Treatment Plant to feed into the Newmills areas, which is very positive.”
Despite the new pump reducing low water pressure and outages, Cllr Kelly said it won’t reduce bursts on the network.
To avoid this happening again, he said the goal and permanent solution is to have the infrastructure upgraded and a bigger reservoir in place.
“A large investment is needed here and I have once again requested that central government be lobbied to secure adequate funding,” he said.
“There is a 37 per cent leakage in the infrastructure in Donegal, and that for me speaks volumes.”
