UISCE ÉIREANN has confirmed that vital water maintenance works scheduled for the Manorcunningham area are to face further delays.
This comes after Uisce Éireann contacted Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly this week to inform him of the delay.
After being told works were to begin this month, Cllr Kelly said he was “disappointed for the residents” when he received the news that the works had been pushed back to January 2024.
In a statement to Cllr Kelly, Uisce Éireann said the provisional start date for the maintenance was the end of January 2024.
However, due to “minor complications” delaying the crews on current schemes, the start date now has a two week delay.
“In parallel, T2 applications have been agreed last Friday and detailed design is ongoing.
“Uisce Éireann are progressing a number of critical rehab sections in Donegal and Pluck Mannorcuningham will commence as soon as the crew complete Horn Head.
“We are working closely with our contractor to expedite a start date of end January 2024,” the statement
concluded.
With residents of Rosbracken and Raymoghy facing water outages on numerous occasions throughout the year, Cllr Kelly said he’ll be keeping a close eye on the issue.
“I am aware last Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day residents did suffer with water
outages.
“I will be keeping a close eye on this and keeping the pressure on Uisce Éireann to ensure this doesn’t happen this Christmas,” he said.
However, although Cllr Kelly spoke of his disappointment, he also said it is positive news that the works will commence after the completion of the works in Horn Head.
“I want to thank the residents in those areas for their patients and co-operation and ensure them the works are in sight,” he said.
