A TYRONE man appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court yesterday evening charged in connection with a major drugs find in Castlefinn last week.

Andrew Neeson (32), with an address at Skelpy Lower, Castlefin, was charged with possession of €200,000 worth of cannabis and possession of €200,000 worth of cannabis with intent to supply.

The charges relate to the seizure of the cannabis herb which was found in a van in the centre of Castlefin on Tuesday evening.

The seizure was made shortly after 8 pm at a petrol station as a result of an intelligence led operation involving the Garda National Drug Unit, Customs Revenue Enforcement Officers, and the Divisional Drug Unit, Donegal.

Garda Inspector Goretti Sheridan told Judge Paul Kelly she was strongly objecting to any bail application.

She explained that Neeson was originally from Clady in County Tyrone and she believed he was a flight risk as he would be entitled to apply for a UK passport in Northern Ireland.

However defence solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, said that many people born and living in the Republic were entitled to UK passports.

Judge Paul Kelly said he would grant bail on strict conditions, including a curfew and that Neeson sign-on at a Garda station.

He insisted that Neeson put-up personal bail of €10,000, including €5,000 cash, as well as an independent surety of €15,000, also to include €5,000 cash.

However, Neeson was unable to meet the conditions and was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison to appear at Monday’s sitting of the court.
