Gardai at the scene of the incident at Main Street, Falcarragh where a man was seriously injured on St Patrick’s night.
TWO young people have been released on bail in connection with an assault in Falcarragh which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital.
The two appeared at the Falcarragh District Court sitting in Letterkenny, this morning (Wednesday).
The first man, Stephen O’Donnell (20) of Cnoc Fola, Brinaleck, Gaoth Dobhair, was charged with assault at Main Street, Falcarragh, in the early hours of Monday morning.
Garda Sergeant Martin Rochford told the court that O’Donnell was arrested on Main Street, Falcarragh at 10.20am on Tuesday morning.
He was taken to Glenties Garda station where he was charged that evening at 6.50 pm.
O’Donnell, who appeared in court wearing black trousers and a black jacket, made no reply when charged.
Inspector David Kelly said Gardai were not objecting to bail, but asked Judge Paul Kelly to impose a number of strict bail conditions.
He asked for a curfew from midnight to 8 am, that O’Donnell sign on once a week at Falcarragh Garda Station and that he remain sober.
Inspector Kelly also asked that he not interfere with any witnesses, stay at his current address and he hand in his passport.
The second person, who was charged with assault causing harm, was a juvenile and cannot be named for legal reasons.
Initially, gardai asked that he not be allowed in the town of Falcarragh between the hours of 8 pm to 8 am.
However, following objections by his solicitor, Mr Paudge Dorrian, he was also released on bail with similar conditions to O’Donnell.
Inspector Kelly asked the court to allow for a two month adjournment in the case as further charges may arise.
The case relates to an incident in Falcarragh on St Patrick’s night during which a man was seriously injured.
Patrick McLaughlin (47), from Gaoth Dobhair, was allegedly assaulted and was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he is being treated for a serious head injury.
The victim is currently in a critical condition.
Judge Kelly granted bail to both defendants and adjourned the case to the May 15, sitting of the court.
