Two motorists arrested in Letterkenny for excessive speeding

GARDAÍ in Letterkenny are urging drivers to slow down following two arrests for excessive speeding in recent days.

On Sunday, while gardaí from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit conducted a speed check on the N56 Four Lane Road, between the Dry Arch and the Polestar Roundabout, a vehicle was detected travelling 135kmhr in a 60 kmhr zone.

The driver was arrested and charged to appear in court.

Meanwhile, on Monday night, gardaí from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit detected a vehicle travelling at 179kmhr on the Dual Carriageway.

The driver was arrested and charged, and the car was seized under Section 109(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

To reclaim the vehicle, the motorist must apply to the District Court judge.

A garda spokesperson said: “As always, we remind all drivers that speed kills and to slow down.”
