Two months sentence for Ballyshannon man who had 95 previous convictions

A Ballyshannon man who has been in custody on a number of theft charges has been sentenced to a further two months imprisonment for a similar offence.

Brian Ward, with an address at Donegal Road, has 95 previous convictions for theft and public order related offences.

The defendant appeared at Monday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court to face the latest charge which related to an incident at the Next shop at Letterkenny Retail Park on November 25, 2022.

Ward had entered the store accompanied by another male and stocked up on clothing items valued at €300 before proceeding to pass all points of payment without paying.

The pair were identified through CCTV footage and Ward was subsequently arrested.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court the defendant was fully cooperative.

Ward is currently serving a seven month sentence for a variety of theft offences.

Judge Ciaran Liddy sentenced Ward to jail for a further two months.
