Two jiving brothers of Magherabuoy go viral

TWO Letterkenny brothers have found fame online thanks to a video of them jiving.
The two minute clip of David and Richard Gordon dancing around the kitchen of their Magheraboy farmhouse in wellies and flat caps has been viewed over five million times.
To the sound of country star Patrick Feeney the pair perform a series of intricate jiving manouevres without missing a single beat.
The video was created as part of the Jive for June fundraiser organised by Donegal Hospice. But farmer David Gordon told the Donegal News he never expected it to be picked up around the world.
“We were doing Jive for June but as we’re farmers we never get a minute to do anything.
“Sometimes if we were out we might dance for a bit of craic but we never normally dance in the house.
“That day I had been gathering stones in the field when Viola McLaughlin, a friend of ours who knows we can dance, said she wanted to record us for Facebook. I said to Richard come on ahead, it’ll be a laugh.”
While impromptu, the brothers have clearly danced before. In fact David and Richard, aged 28 and 24 respectively, have been jiving since they were eight years old.
“The video went up and it got a few shares and likes. But the sister rang me the next day and asked if I’d seen the reaction it had got. I told her I wouldn’t have time for that sort of thing but she said it had got so many views. I laughed and asked her what good was that to me and could she get me someone to give me a hand on the farm instead.”
David Gordon is no stranger to showbusiness having worked as a roadie for Robert Mizzell, Jim Devine and the band Keltic Storm. But this is his first time to be the star of the show.
“I don’t feel like a star,” quipped the Letterkenny man.
“Seriously though the reaction has been mad. I’ve been getting messages from all over the world. I had a message from a woman in Texas but
I had to tell her she was a wee bit far away for my liking.”
Among the hundreds of thousands of people who have given the pair the thumbs is singer Patrick Feeney himself. Sharing the video on his Facebook page he wrote, “I hope to see these two legends on Feeney’s Fun in the Sun next year. Ye can move in wellies but can ye do it in flip flops lads?”
