OVER €37,000 in capital funding has been announced for two community projects in the Donegal Gaeltacht.
The allocations include €31,837 for lonad Lae Ghaoth Dobhair to purchase essential kitchen equipment for the Gaoth Dobhair Day Centre, which provides services to senior citizens and Alzheimer’s respite.
Kilcar Parish Hall Committee was also allocated €5,221 to purchase sound equipment and carry out fireproof painting of the hall, ensuring the hall remains a safe and functional space for community groups and events. The hall is also used as an Irish college.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the announcement by Minister for the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary.
He said the funding will provide a real boost to both local community facilities that play an essential role in their local area.
“These grants will support two hardworking community committees who provide services and facilities for people in their local areas. This funding will help them continue their excellent work,” he said.
The Donegal deputy added that continued investment in community infrastructure is vital for sustaining vibrant Gaeltacht communities.
“This funding recognises the commitment of local volunteers and community leaders who work tirelessly to maintain and improve facilities for everyone.
“I will continue to advocate for further investment in the Donegal Gaeltacht to ensure our communities receive the support they deserve,” he said.
