Two fishermen rescued off the coast of Tory Island

Two fishermen were rescued off the coast of Tory Island this morning.

The Malin Head Coast Guard received the mayday call from the crew on board just before 6 am this morning.

The Malin Head Coast Guard tasked the Rescue 118, a Search and Rescue Helicopter based in Sligo, and the Arranmore lifeboat. Both the Tory and Bunbeg Coast Guard also assisted.

When they arrived the two crew members were found in a life raft, almost 2 miles from where their boat, the Silver Rose had sunk.

A local vessel which was nearby assisted in the rescue, they picked up the crew and brought them back to Magheroarty pier, a spokesperson from The Malin Head Coast Guard told the Donegal News.

The two fishermen were then assessed by the Coast Guard and it was determined that no further medical attention was required.
