Caoimhe Ni Chathail from Letterkenny and Barra Ó Scannláin from Ballybofey won the best Irish language radio show awards at the weekend.
The 15th KBC National Student Media Awards (the Smedias), organised by Oxygen.ie the student website, and sponsored by KBC Bank Ireland, took place on Thursday, April 16 in the Aviva Stadium. This year the awards received over 1,000 entries from student journalists, broadcasters and producers from all across Ireland.
Over 400 students, sponsors and members of the national media, as well as celebrities, gathered to attend the KBC Smedias, which was MC’d by comedian Oliver Callan.
Caoimhe Ni Chathail (20) and Barra Ó Scannláin, also 20 won the IRISEOIREACHT TRÍ GHAEILGE (RAIDIÓ) Award for their show Starróga na Seachtaine. The award, sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge is awarded to the best student radio production through the Irish language made in the last year.
DCU students walked away with five of the six radio category awards on Thursday night. It’s one of the biggest wins for the college at the Smedias.
