A FILM highlighting the defective concrete crisis in Donegal has won two awards.
Galar, directed by Inishowen filmmaker Niall Duffy, scooped Best Irish Short Film and Best Actor (Mark Loughran), at the Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival.
While a few of the cast and crew were in Ballyliffin for the Disappear Here Film Festival, cast member Barry O’Donnell was in Dublin to accept the awards.
Accepting the awards in Dublin, Mr O’Donnell said the driving force behind the film was to bring an awareness to the situation in Donegal.
“The driving force behind the short was really to bring an awareness to the situation in Donegal in relation to the mica situation, and people living in houses with defective blocks and the impact on the mental health of people living up there.”
Mr O’Donnell referenced Storm Amy, and of how many people in Donegal live in fear of stormy weather because of the types of houses they are living in.
“The last thing that I’d like to say is that the house where the short was shot in has actually been demolished because it was deemed unsafe by Donegal County Council.”
