Twenty Donegal gardaí sustained injury in 2024

TWENTY gardaí in Donegal Division sustained injury in the course of duty in 2024.

Figures obtained through the Freedom of Information Act reveal the breakdown of occupational injuries suffered by gardaí in the course of duty, and the type of injury.

Twenty gardaí reported sustaining an occupational injury in Donegal Division in 2024.

Assault accounted for the highest injury type in Donegal Division (15).

Three gardaí sustained injury in road traffic collisions in 2024.

Body movement (resulting in injury) and injured by an animal each accounted for one occupational injury reported by gardai in Donegal Division, according to the freedom of information figures.

In all, 555 gardaí across the country’s garda divisions sustained injury in the course of carrying out their duties in 2024.

Clare/Tipperary Division saw the highest number of gardaí who reported sustaining an occupational injury in 2024 (48).

Laois/Offaly saw the lowest number of occupational injury reported by gardaí in 2024 (seven).

Across all garda divisions nationally, assault accounted for the highest injury type, with the highest recorded in Kerry (30).
