TRIBUTES have poured in after the death of a Donegal man in Greece who has been named locally as Martin Duffy from Lifford.
Mr Duffy, who was in his fifties, was on holiday with his family when he died following a drowning incident on Monday.
He was well known in footballing circles and was a lifelong member of Deele Harps FC.
Local Councillor Gary Doherty said the entire community is in shock.
“The entire community in east Donegal is in profound shock and mourning this evening following the tragic news of the death of Martin Duffy in Greece,” said Cllr Doherty.
Lifford Celtic FC also extended sympathy to the family.
“All at Lifford Celtic F.C are saddened to hear of the tragic death of Martin Duffy, Coolatee, Lifford. The thoughts and prayers of us all at Lifford Celtic are with his wife Marie, daughter Jade, sons Nicky and Jordan and the entire family at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs said they are providing consular assistance to the family.
