A Donegal man, who had been living in Galway for a number of years, lost his life in a three-car collision in Galway at the weekend.
Father-of-two from Dunkineely, Aiden McNern, who was in his 40s, had been travelling on the outskirts of the city on Sunday afternoon when he was involved in the collision.
Taken to hospital, Mr McNern later succumbed to his injuries.
It is the second tragedy to befall the McNern family in two years, Aiden’s father Eamon having been taken in a drowning accident at Bruckless Pier in 2023.
A loving tribute came from Naomh Ultan GAA club in Dunkineely which said, “Aidan’s close and extended family have long been deeply involved with our club, and his loss is felt profoundly throughout our community.
“His presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this very difficult time”
Aiden is survived by his loving family; his mother, Caroline, his daughters, Grace and Ciara and their mum Annmarie, his twin brother, Gordan (Laura), his sister, Lisa (Martin). He will be sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, niece and nephews, and all his relatives, neighbours and friends.
Mr McNern’s remains have been reposing at the family home in Castleview both yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday) until 9pm.
The requiem Mass will take place tomorrow (Friday) at The Church of St Joseph and Conal, Bruckless, at midday, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
