Tributes paid following sad passing of Evan Craig

THE death has occurred of Evan Craig, Ballyboe, Ture, Muff.

Mr Craig passed away peacefully at his home yesterday, Sunday, September 8, following an illness.

Many tributes have been paid following Mr Craig’s death.

Devastated by the news of his sad passing, Naomh Padraig GAA took to social media to convey their sadness following the death of their popular player.

“We as a club are devastated this evening to hear of the sad passing of our much loved and respected senior player Evan Craig. We are heartbroken for Evan’s parents Joe and Grace, sisters Ciara and Orla, girlfriend Cloda, brother in law Darragh, Nieces Ellie and Anna and all the family.

“As a mark of respect for Evan, all club activity has been suspended until further notice.”

The late Mr Craig starred for the club at underage level and moved up through the ranks to senior football.

He lined out in the Junior ‘A’ Championship last season before battling illness for many months.

‘Craic on Muff’ remembered Mr Craig’s huge, contagious smile.

“Evan was not big in stature. But he was huge in person. His smile was huge and it was contagious, his character infectious.

“Evan Craig was, and will continue to be, a red-headed viral happy-go-lucky, Muff kiddo. A young man with a permanent smile; with a kind word for everyone; with a hello to all.

“Evan was a huge part of the local sporting community; a huge part of our youth community; a huge part of Muff. We all pray for Evan’s family and friends. We keep them all in our prayers.”

McErlean Fuels Killea also paid tribute to their former member of staff describing him as a true gentleman.

We are saddened at this time to learn of the passing of Evan Craig from Muff, a former member of staff.

“We offer our sincere condolences to his parents, Grace and Joe, sisters Ciara and Orla, his girlfriend Cloda and all his extended family and friends.

“Evan was friendly, modest and hard-working, a true gentleman.”

Evan’s remains are now reposing at his home where you are all welcome to pay your respects.

Funeral from there on Wednesday, September 11 at 2.15pm for 3pm funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church Muff followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.

Family time from 10pm to 11am.

Mr Craig is the cherished son of Grace and Joe, much loved brother of Ciara (Darragh) and Orla (Caolin) and loving boyfriend of Cloda.

A much loved grandson of Annie McColgan and uncle of Ellie and Anna.

He is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his aunties and uncles, cousins, wider family circle, friends and neighbours.
