Trees down as Storm Ali arrives

THERE are several trees down across Donegal this morning as Storm Ali passes over the country.

AA Roadwatch said there are several fallen trees on the N14 between Letterkenny and Lifford. There is a tree down on the Frosses/Glenties Road (R262) and the road from Belleek to Ballyshannon is blocked in the Camden Castle area because of a fallen tree.

Gardai have also advised that the Convoy Road just outside Castlefinn is blocked with motorists advised to drive with care while a fallen tree has also partially blocked the road between Castlefinn and Lifford but that road is still passable.

The orange status weather warning for Donegal will remain in place until 1pm this afternoon.

Met Eireann said gusts in excess of 130 km/hr are possible in coastal regions of the west and northwest.

They warned: “Extreme caution is advised in the coastal districts of Clare, Connacht and Donegal this morning with strong gale and storm force winds there.”

The strongest gusts recorded so far was at Mace Head in Galway where there was a gust reaching 143 km/hr.
