Tragic Raphoe crash victim named

THE young motorcyclist killed in yesterday evening’s crash outside Raphoe has been named as Hugh Shalvey (34).

Mr Shalvey died instantly following a collision between his motorbike and a jeep and trailer at the entrance to Oakfield Park, Demesne, at around 4pm.

A native of Killymarley, County Monaghan, he was married to well-known local woman Edel O’Donnell who works with Donegal County Council.

The couple had only married two years ago and lived at Demesne, not far from where the crash took place.

Mr Shalvey worked as a lift mechanic and was described by his father-in-law, boxing coach Peter O’Donnell, as a loving husband who was well-known and highly respected in the area.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed, however, he is expected to be laid to rest after funeral Mass in St Eunan’s Church, Raphoe, on Saturday.

The road where the accident happened remains closed this morning as Garda accident scene investigators arrived to carry out an investigation into the crash. It is expected to re-open at around noon today.
